It's a Palo Verde beetle. You'll seem them more after a storm.

Those guys come out around monsoon season and while they look terrifying (they FLY) they are completely harmless. They live for a very short time and only come out to mate, they don't even eat I believe. You'll see them this time of year for the next couple of weeks.

OK, good. I was worried I'd have to look into some anti-aircraft guns, maybe some small surplus Easter European surface-to-air missiles.
