I-10 from the Short Stack on the east to the 101 interchange on the west will be a parking lot at all hours because people are too stupid to figure out all the lane changes. Who is the moron who puts a major interchange every 3 or 4 miles, it should have been connected to the 101 and I-10 stack.

I probably will never use it other than that

*raises hand*

It'll never make sense for me to use it because I live in central Phoenix, but no doubt it'll be great for a lot of people who either live in the SE Valley or West Valley.

The reason is because almost half of the city of Tolleson (including it's downtown) would have had to have been razed for it to happen

Yeah I'll definitely drive it just for fun once it's open too.

However, I also live in Chandler, so it'll get some use out of us when we either want to hit the Wildlife Zoo in Litchfield Park so that we don't have to deal with going through downtown, or when we need to drive to CA.

Uh, no ... more like 30+ years from the time it was planned to the time it actually opens. It was delayed needlessly due to pushback from NIMBYs, as well as scrapped once in the mid '90s after ADOT revealed they didn't have the funds to complete all the freeways which were part of the 1985 funding. This freeway would have been in full operation over 20 years ago if ADOT & MAG hadn't fudged their budgets, and if the adamant NIMBYs were non existent.

The original plans were for it to meet at the I10 around 59th Avenue, and I'm glad this route was chosen instead of the alternative plans (10/101 stack). It has helped to improve a good portion of I10 through west Phoenix and get rid of that useless dirt median. When it's all finished, there should be better lighting along that part of I10 as well. ADOT would have done absolutely nothing to improve that section of I10 had it not been for this new interchange.

Tolleson has a downtown???
Yes, it does. Runs down Van Buren from 95th Ave to 87th Ave and down 91st Ave from I-10 to the railroad tracks between Van Buren and Buckeye, as well as all corresponding side streets.

That would have all been gone had they chose the 101 connection, and would also most likely required the razing of the Albertsons and Frys Distribution Centers

Yes, I know quite well the history and trials and tribulations of the South Mountain Freeway, I was just commenting on the actual construction time, not the 30+ years of politics, but thanks for bringing it up yet again!

Yeah, it consists of a Filiberto's, Muffler Repair and Dollar Store. The highest and best use for that land would have been the freeway connecting the 202 to the 101 and would have changed Tolleson for the better.
