Moving to Phoenix/Scottsdale area over the summer and curious what sort of utility bills we can expect. We'll be living in a 2500-3000 square foot single family home.

I would guess around $200-$300/month during the summer. It really depends on your tolerance of heat.

Add another $50-100 or so per month if you plan on having a pool.

On the other hand, if I had a pool, I could probably survive without A/C as long as I had fans...I'd just jump in the pool every hour or so haha.

Actually, I couldn't do that anyway because I have an 18 month old at home.

Yeah. Do you use gas for heating? My parents here in town have gas heating, but the A/C is electric.

Also, I rarely turn the heat on in the winter, so it's a lot cheaper then.

I wish my electric bill was that cheap ---- we pay around $300 a month ---- for a 1700 square foot home in California. I keep trying to get hubby to move to Arizona as the utilities would be so much cheaper.

Does Arizona own the rights to Hoover Dam hydroelectric power? I'm thinking we do. I do know that we sell a lot of power to Cali (some of it from Palo Verde nuclear, I think). That, and the larger demand probably makes it more expensive. Rates have definitely gone up around here too though.

There are two major power providers in the greater Phoenix area: APS and SRP. Slightly off topic, here's a few fun facts about SRP, in case anyone's interested.

Yes. I know. We have APS. But, I was referring to the 2 biggest power plants we have in AZ.
