Hey Team Phoenix!

I apologize in advance for another one of those "where should I live" threads but....

I'm looking to relocate from sunny southern California to sunny Phoenix area next month for work but I'm still trying to narrow down where to live. Would the commute from Central Camelback to Southern Chandler be unrealistic M-F 8am-5pm? I'm used to traffic but I'd like to avoid having an hr commute daily. Any relief by the new 202 expansion?

Thank you all in advance!

That would be a long commute. Probably wouldn't consider it without an electric car for the HOV lane. Even then it would still be 45 minutes +

That’s an interesting commute idea though...I’m intrigued. I guess the idea is not everyone with a job in aerospace/tech in Chandler wants to live in suburbia? Wouldn’t much of this be a reverse commute?

I'm just finding more of the type of rental properties I would be interested in renting located in the greater Chandler and Tempe area. Of course, I've been watching google traffic as I can and it's showing typically 45 minutes from Camelback to southern Chandler but its tough to gauge how tough this commute would be.

In CA, we have just a few major routes which would work for a commute home. But when I look at the traffic Maps heading to and from Chandler, it typically provides a lot of routing options.

My wife did that "reverse" commute when she worked nights at Barrow's. Still took her 45 min - 1 hour from Thomas/Central to South Chandler. If you are talking South Chandler (home) to Central/Camelback (work) then I did that commute for 3 years...same 45-60 minutes.

Traffic patterns may change with the South Mountain Freeway open though so it may or may not get better. I doubt it will with the amount of people moving here but...one can wish

I don’t think it makes sense. Why not just live in Tempe?

Oh you mean live in Chandler work in Camelback? Hmmm..I think you can find what you want closer to work. Also Tempe and Chandler are really different. Maybe if you post want you are looking for in a rental and where you are working you would get some suggestions.

Thank you for the information and you are correct, Home in Southern Chandler to Camelback daily.

45-60 to do 20 miles doesn't sound too horrible if I find a property that fits the bill.

It isn't horrible...and if you buy an Electric vehicle (Tesla, Mach E, etc) you can use the HOV lane. Of course that is getting kind of backed up as well with everyone buying Teslas in Chandler so...may not be much of an advantage in 2020.
