Where can I find a good bowl (or even cup) of chili? It's far less common on menus here than in the Midwest. My culinary skills aren't good enough to prepare a chili that is better than average. Search results yield nothing. I am getting hits for Chili's and Mexican cuisine. Majerle's has a decent bowl/cup but there must be competition somewhere. Looking for options that aren't Wendy's, canned or include turkey.

How far are you willing to drive? Had an excellent bowl of Filet Mignon chili in Cottonwood at the Tavern Grill a couple of weeks ago.

IMHO, the chili I make is pretty darn good. (the secret ingredient is beer!)

Whenever I'm in Phoenix, I always stop at the Ranch House Grill. This recommendation is on the basis of their chili verde, which is in my top 3 (and I have lived in NM). If their red chili is anything like it, it'll be amazing. Its certainly worth checking out.

I assume you mean a Midwestern-style ground beef chili (as opposed to Mexican dishes like chili colorado or Texas-style chili con carne made with cubes of chuck and no beans). I've had some good bowls of Midwestern chili recently at Matt's Big Breakfast (available only after 11 AM) and Lolo's Chicken and Waffles.

I second this. Their chili verde is to die for.

It's a long but extremely beautiful drive out to tortilla flats but their chili is on point.
