I would remove the tree and replace it with something which won't damage pipes. I own a home in an HOA and a few years back the HOA removed all the Sissoo trees from common areas. They also recommended owners consider removing such tree if they have one in their backyard.

Growing up in SF my father and the neighbors decided to plant a New Zealand Christmas tree in front the property. Great looking trees but they caused the sidewalk to buckle and began to damage underground piping.

Sorry this happened to you. That totally sucks. Rip that flippin thing and all its roots out (as best you can)! They will come back and do all the time.
My next door neighbor has a 'new' 15 ft high sissoo growth (she didn't plant a tree) popping up along our party wall. It's either from the HOA's trees behind her house, the sissoo on her property or remnants of the sissoo I removed last year or the year before from my side of the wall. They are relentless.

Happened to me years ago from a Sissoo tree. $5k of damage to our sewer pipe and insurance didn't cover a damn thing.

I had the tree cut down and continued to pour stump killer on all the roots I would find in the yard over the next 2 years. It's finally not producing suckers anymore. These trees keep looking for water, even when you are watering them appropriately. I'd remove it to prevent future problems.

Thanks everyone for sharing. I'm definitely leaning towards having it removed.

Can anyone recommend a company that specializes in Sissoo removal? In the east valley, preferrably.

Default Update

Ended up going with Bartlett Tree Experts. Tree was poisoned, then cut down about 6-8 weeks later.
