Thanks to all of you for your views and insights.. economic segregation is true for any big city... my concern is more about acceptability of brown people in a community, schools... upscale or not for that matter...
I am still not sure about my exact work location, it could be in Phoenix (34th st or 19th av) or Tempe. I am looking to buy a house in range of $200 to $250k.
I read on one of the posts that Chandler and Laveen ar 2 good areas.. but I dont know about the schools and the commute.
I would really appreciate more info and again thank you much!!

You do understand that we have a whole lot of "brown people" here, right? I think it's MUCH more economically segregated than most big cities. I don't think you're understanding just how not "skin color" segregated we are (considering your original post here).

For schools stick with the Kyrene which would be S Tempe, Ahwautkee...That price range though will get you farther in Laveen but you may want to think again about that school district over there. I'm not going to get into a Laveen bash but you need to research for yourself before you buy anything over there.

Don't worry about the brown issue.

We are moving to Phoenix/Scottsdale over the summer. My husband is also brown and south-asian and middle-eastern looking... To worry about segregation in Arizona has never occurred to us. We're coming there from Ohio so, I think it'll be a step up as far as racism goes. As far as I know Phoenix area is pretty diverse, you guys should be fine!

I've heard Tempe is really nice, but we're choosing Scottsdale for the schools. Good luck!
