Plus Phoenix is known for being the regional HQ for many large companies, but not the main corporate location. So we lose out on big corporate donations from a company or CEO with a large ego who wants their name attached to a charity, museum or park.

I grew up in very blue collar and gritty Toledo Ohio, it's a horrible place. But Mrs. Libby (of Libby Glass that her husband started)was a patron of the arts. Wanted to bestow the city with a world class museum, so Toledo Ohio of all places has an art museum that is 10X better than what we have in Phoenix. Plus the museum is free, wanted to make sure that everyone had the opportunity to enjoy the museum she created.

Now I do think things are improving, the museum is a lot better than it was 20 years ago.
Most people won't donate when they don't agree with how it is run. $23! I don't think I ever paid an admission charge except for smaller museums like the Warhol in Pittsburgh.

I know they brought in someone new but the volunteers complained. Never heard more about that.

$23 is hardly outrageous for museum admission. If you've found ways to visit major museums without paying admission fees, perhaps you were going on free nights underwritten by corporate sponsors. For visitors with flexible schedules, it is usually possible to find a certain designated time during the week to visit for free or reduced cost, but to visit at your own convenience usually costs something.

Amada Cruz, the controversial director who alienated a lot of longstanding volunteers and docents, left PAM last year to run the Seattle Art Museum. Timothy Rogers was hired as her replacement just as everything went sideways with the pandemic, so it will be interesting to see how he copes with the twin challenges of cleaning up a predecessor's mess and dealing with the financial impact of an extended closure.

Why not just call the museum? You do not need us to ¨plan.¨ Just go.
