If I'm relocating my business to the Phoenix metro, what is the most recognizable or preferred area code to use for a business phone number...

480 or 602

This may not seem like a big deal to most people, but a lot of money and marketing research goes into these decisions, so I just thought I'd reach out directly instead....

Thank you in advance

With the proliferation of area codes being overlaid on the old ones any particular one likely doesn't matter much now.

480 is projected to run out of numbers by 2024. An overlay is bound to happen soon. As for how it is implemented, I wouldn't be surprised if they erase the 602/480/623 boundaries and combine them. 623 is underutilized and has a lot of spare capacity. I think for mobile users many simply find 623 to be less desirable, which is why isn't near exhaustion like the other two.

Everyday we get calls from scammers using 480. We are in the 623 for home, have 480 on our present cell but the last cell we had used 928 but I would use 602 for your new business.

I have never given one thought about a company based on it's area code.

Used to sell printing and actually had this conversation a few times with some start ups when designing business cards and other sales collateral.

602 is the original Arizona area code and personally the one that I picked for all of my various business and personal ventures.

I would pick 602. Hands down. When I lived in Surprise, I would dodge calling area code 480. Why? Because I assumed some businesses would not want to drive from the East Valley to the West Valley. And if they did, I would pay a premium. I have decided who to call in this manner all of my life.

Also, all things being equal, businesses charge more when real estate is more expensive. With that said, now that I live on the East Valley, I dodge area code 623. Hence, area code 692 is a slam dunk, no brainer! My perception (right or wrong) is that the business is more central and more established. Note: I didn’t say it was. Rather, that is my perception. In sales, “perception is reality” in people’s minds. Personally, I have an area code 612 for that same MN reason (763 is Northern burb and 952 is the Southern burbs). AND 612 is more central. I live in area code 218 far Northern, MN but I want the perception that I am central. It works!

Came back to say the same thing MN-Born did, in sales/business "perception is reality". Whether right or wrong I know a few folks that live and grew up in the 480 area code, they admit they sort of look down snobbishly on anything with a 623 area code. Back when I was single, there were women online that refused to date any guy with a 623 area code because of the perception that the area code was full of blue collar men.

For personal use, it doesn't mean squat. But in business people make gut level decisions in under 10 seconds about who they are going to call. 602 is the way to go.

Interesting. That makes a lot of sense. And ironically enough, i use a 952 area code and an also from MN. But its because i lived and worked in Apple Valley and surrounding areas.

I just get a lot of other business owners that will oush for 480. I just simply dont like the number 4... odd i know but thats just me.

But it seems like 602 is almost more universal to the whole area and 480 is more Phoenix.

Thank you all for the replies. Its much appreciated.
