I found some units that may be of interest. I’ve checked out the areas myself but still want to gage the good/bad. These areas are relatively close to work:

1. Apache/101, Tempe

2. Greenway Pkwy/32nd, Phoenix

3. Mesa/University, Mesa (a bit further out)

4. Thomas/44th, Phoenix

5. Campbell/I-17, Phoenix

6. Cave Creek/Thunderbird, Phoenix

What are your guys thoughts on these areas?

I'm not a fan of any of those locations. But that's using my needs as a gauge. What are you looking for?

Thomas & 44th Street can be great in one direction and scary the opposite. May look sketchy from one of the main roads, but drive in a block and you're greeted by classic 50's & 60's era ranches on large lots.

University runs a long way in Mesa. I live in East Mesa and the area is hit and miss. I would look somewhere starting at Lindsey/University and heading towards (but not past) Power/University.

The good: lots of shopping and the 60 freeway is not too far away.

The bad: crime can be an issue. Schools: Your child can be assigned a good elementary school but then a crappy Jr. high. Charter schools are available though.

#2 is The Square - look it up. Definite no.
#5 is the probably even worse than the Square.

The others (as mentioned earlier) dependent on exactly where from the intersection you are talking about. Thomas/44th St would probably be my pick, if I was forced to choose one of those locations.

#4 has some great neighborhoods.
#5, WTF. no
#1 is ok, but a mile or so from that intersection.
2,3 & 6 used to be ok, but I haven't been in years.

Avoid Campbell/I-17, especially if on the west side of the freeway (east side isn't much better)

1. Apache/101, Tempe Not bad but I don't know the area

2. Greenway Pkwy/32nd, Phoenix Run down area to the west some call it the "white square" due drugs 29 st & Greenway

3. Mesa/University, Mesa (a bit further out) Don't know only drive though there looks kind of old run down.

4. Thomas/44th, Phoenix No way I once was working in a high rise building just south of the 202 44th street watched a teen run into the 1st floor office grab a laptop and run down the street. Security guard chased another kid pulled a gun shot a few rounds at him lucky didn't him him.

5. Campbell/I-17, Phoenix Terrible area nothing around I-17 is good unless your north of 101 freeway.

6. Cave Creek/Thunderbird, Phoenix

Run down mostly like sunny slope lot of transients. Vet tech just north of there was raped and strangled almost to death. She witnessed a transient who had his pants down watching kids at a day care facility adjacent to the animal clinic. She yelled at him he ran but later ambushed her as she left work in the parking lot after everyone left for the day. He was never apprehended by the police .
