It's been 25 years since I've lived in Phoenix. Now that we're moving back in about 9 months, I'm looking at neighborhoods. What is Laveen? I've never heard of it.

An old farming town annexed by Phoenix around 20 years ago. There's a dairy, some old farms/ranches and a lot of newer developments.

Not a place you want to live, based on your other post.

It is the southwest part of the city of Phoenix. It developed rapidly back in the earlier housing boom with mostly starter homes. Overall it is a somewhat lower income area with pockets of higher priced homes on the hillsides of South Mountain with quite a bit of agricultural land as well.

yeah, that's my sense of it. it looks really isolated, so I was surprised when I looked on the map and it didn't seem "that" far. Thanks for confirming. Ack.

does Gilbert still have a "dairy" or cow stink? One of the places I've lived was an area called Eastvale, technically in Corona, California, and when I moved there it was a brand new development and it reeked from the dairies. Even worse were the black flies that would bite at night. You couldn't sit outside. I know, I know. We moved to the nuisance, the nuisance didn't come to us. But it was really horrible. I had friends with allergies who couldn't come to visit because they were so overwhelmed by the air quality and odor. Their voice/throat would close up within a few minutes of arrival. So that's something I will avoid at all costs this time around. Obviously if I go to look at homes I'd know immediately, but since I'm doing all of my browsing online until we can manage a long weekend visit in a month or two, I need to try to assess from afar.

"We moved to the nuisance, the nuisance didn't come to us."...No, you moved to the country....if anyone/anything was a nuisance, it was the interlopers to the farmers....they were in what was "the country" long before the subdivisions arrived.

Right, that's what I meant. I was trying to say that, but came off offensive. Sorry about that!

Depends how close you live to Elliot and say Sossoman, there is still a few dairies out that well. I still get the smell from time to time, not like when I was a kid in Gilbert 20 years ago but its still there if the wind blows the right direction

The smell has reduced drastically. I live in Southeast Mesa in Eastmark. It’s not the norm. Maybe once this year it was noticeable.
