If you're able, this sounds like a good idea. Of course, if it is in your heart to be here I don't think anyone on the board wants to douse your dream, but they are giving you a realistic perspective on what's happening out here right now in terms of housing/rental prices. Good luck in whatever you decide.

No, it's penalizing you because you signed your name to an agreement with your apartment provider and you're not holding up your end of the deal. It has nothing to do with whether you're good or not and whether you want to advance your career. If you really want to bail on an apartment and move cross-country, that's just the price you're going to have to pay.

I know two affordable apartment complexes in central Phoenix with utilities included if OP wants me to DM them. There is a waitlist and it’s not the fanciest place but it is one of the last affordable places. Before I found a roommate and got a situation figured out I got approved for a 1 bed after two months on the waiting list. That was also before Covid.

Renting is hard right now and your best bet is to find a diamond in the rough like I’ve done or rent a room or individual landlord.

I'm wondering if the Tucson area has the same rental problems as Phoenix?

don't do it rents are skyrocketing, everyone is moving to the area at the same time, wages won't keep up with the cost of living unless you want to live in a " Ghetto " apt building, there are plenty of those, one-bedroom, roach-infested, loud, police visits, not enough parking, etc.
but if you make 75K a year everything will be wonderful!

Please do not listen to this person. I make nowhere near 75K and live in Scottsdale pretty comfortably. It's all abot your other bills ie: car payments, phone etc.

They did offer me the job and I'm heading out there later this week to look around. Meanwhile I'm making a list of apartments & then will narrow it down more. There are a lot that meet my needs, and what I'm seeing is that most are in the $1400 range.

There's a bunch of apartments along McDowell between the 202 and 101, basically backing up to I-10. I think that would be Phoenix but near the Tolleson area. Is that part of McDowell good or not a good part of town? Also in Glendale off of 63rd.

The west side is kind of "less desirable" if you ask me. It doesn't seems as things are kept up and maintained as much as in the east valley.
