With cold temperatures forecasted for the Valley this weekend, will anyone be turning on their heaters?

We did a test run today and it seems to be working. We installed new Honeywell Smart Color Thermostats and wanted to be sure our furnace was working with them. Typically the first time temperatures are forecasted to fall below 40 degrees is our start date for using our heater.

I've never used a heater in Arizona. I think maybe one weekend a couple years back I put an electric blanket on the bed but have never used a full-fledged heater.

My apartment has getting around 62-65 inside without the heater running for the past month or so despite it being much warmer outside. There's a good chance the heater will kick on.

That is way too cold for me. I am a mostly work from home person, so I do 70 wake, 68 away, 70 return, and 66 sleep.

There's no thought involved in it, if the air temp inside the house gets low enough, the heat turns on. If it warms up enough, the AC turns on.

I hate being cold. My thermostat is set for 74, day and night (in the cooler months). 75-78 in the hotter months.

I've got a heat pump so turning it on means pushing a button. I like the "heat" smell when it comes on for the first couple times each season. IDK if that is a heat pump thing or you get that with a furnace too. It's probably a bunch of noxious stuff that burns off the evap coil or the ducting though.

We have a rule to never run the AC from December through February, and there never has been any day during those months where it has been necessary to run it for us. Usually we start using it in April, with March being the absolute earliest.

I do notice though that many use their thermostats in auto-changeover mode. That won't work for us since we have a zoned system.

I'm no expert, but I was told it is dust on the coils "burning off".
