None of it is sustainable, did you not read what I just wrote? The West has grown too much. To live the lifestyle you want, be comfortable of losing a significant portion of your wealth when the water inevitably gets worse than it already is, or put up with some rain sometimes.

I loved Phoenix but the reality is what you're looking for is really classic "snowbird" – dividing time between two places that are temperate at different times of the year.
Then my assessment of Payson was correct, however it's a bit too far from the amenities I had mentioned.

Also you are correct about my snowbird tendencies,I was lucky enough when I was in my 20s to be able to travel like that. However now I am sort of stuck in one place, but am scouting out new horizons...

You sound a bit tense...I doubt the area is going to dry up anytime soon. And I did not say that I did not want any rain, just warm and less humid.

I'm a Boomer who grew up in California beginning in the 50's. I remember when California was what you are now looking for.

There are going to be issues no matter where you live. I currently live in northen Alabama. We are drowning in rain and inundated by cloudy gloom. And other things.

I am not trying to be snarky because I absolutely hate that on here, but there is no perfect place or even close to perfect, and I think you already realize that.

There's an older book that I have called 'Find Your Best Spot' or something to that effect, it shows statistics on everything from weather to crime and you can rate importance of such things. There may be no perfect place, but yes you can find something close to it with enough research. Things like gloom or scenery have little impact on my decisions,it's mostly weather and population. However I've always been a wanderer, though at some point in life may want to settle somewhere.

I've always been a wanderer too, and that's only partly by choice. It's just the way my life ended up. For me my happy place is Arizona. To me it has everything but the beach and that's a 6 hour drive away. I really don't mind the heat because the rest of the year is, to me, Paradise.

And you're not going to find any place near Phoenix that is not hot. You have to go to at least Payson/Prescott, I mention Sedona loosely as it can still get pretty hot up there.
