We are officially relocating to Phoenix from Portland in June. Exciting times. We have a realtor. We have an idea of areas we would like to live based on commute to kid's school and office. Any advice from locals based on your expertise that you would want to know, do, be aware of, if you were moving to Phoenix in the Summer of 22? Thanks in advance for any tips or suggestions.

What convinced you to move from Portland to Phoenix? Is it a new job, fresh start, change in weather?

If you're moving in June it's the best time to become acclimated to the summer temperatures, they can be anywhere from 100-120 in the afternoon.

My advice is be prepared for the heat, it's nothing to take lightly. Phoenix is totally opposite from Portland.

I moved from the Oregon coast to east Mesa in 2011. Best thing I've ever done.
1st order of business. Heed the advice above. Be ultra prepared for the heat both mentally and physically. I spent three years researching Arizona for some place to live and while I had visited many times in the winter, I had never been here in the summer. I gathered a lot of information from this very forum and I was led to believe that the summers were hell on Earth. So I came here in June of 2011 thinking that my hair would get singed from the top of my head and my toes would spontaneously combust if they ever touched concrete during the summer. With that mindset, I was pleasantly surprised how i could not only survive, but I could thrive in the summer time in the Phoenix valley.
You'll either somewhat enjoy what the summer weather offers or you'll despise it. There will be no in between. If you accept the heat and can make it work for you, then you'll love it here. I chose the latter. I love the constant sunshine vs. the incessant rain and grey skies of Oregon.
Anyway, be prepared for the heat. It's a totally different lifestyle.

Its a great place to live! Clean streets, nice newer housing, sidewalks everywhere (unlike Portland), bike trails, great shopping and restaurants. Great for families, good schools. I moved here from Portland way back in 1997.

I would suggest you look in North Peoria its a really nice area.

I would say its probably wiser to actually move here from October through the end of May but yeah June is OK too but it will be hot.

Thanks for the advice. Career opportunity. Closer to family in So Cal and New Mexico. Good time in our live to switch things up. We are excited for the change of scenery. But we've moved around a lot so I appreciate the perspective of locals. You always see things that don't go noticed from visiting on interviews.
