And there ya have it folks, the answer to most of your "stinky house" problems. And it won't cost you a dime, not to mention all of those chemicals.

More than likely it's a 'dead zone', they didn't have Verizon. Probably got crab grass too...

Default Still alive

It's been 10 years, so if any of you guys are still here I just wanted to thank you properly. Thank you!

We tried a number of your suggestions (full on duct cleaning, painting, ozone, etc), and I have no idea why I didn't respectfully respond to your suggestions at the time and let you know how things were progressing. Terrible forum manners. My bad.

Truth is, it was/is such a subtle smell that we didn't notice it until the house was empty. After a while we either 1.) got rid of it with all your awesome suggestions, or 2.) just got used to it. We're still living here, still alive and didn't find any dead bodies, so I guess it all worked out.

Thanks again everyone. We definitely benefited (we think), from your great advice.

Unfortunately for anyone researching the same thing - we can't tell you if any of the above suggestions worked more than another. We removed the small amount of carpeting (just 2 closets), had our ducts professionally cleaned and sealed, the house painted, ran home ozone generators, etc. My hunch would be that painting all the walls was the biggest benefit, but since we did so many things at once, we'll never know.

Good luck to everyone out there. Thanks again.

Our new house in PHX STINKS!!!!! Help???

Well, thank you for finally thinking about us -- and giving us the obligatory 10-year update -- regarding your previous woefully stinking house!

We've all been waiting on pins and needles since 2008 to hear what became of this situation of yours.

I know I have!

I was gonna say...when we moved into our recent home we had to clean all the grout. 16 years of the previous owners' feet oils...ewww. Probably time to do it again. That and new paint can get rid of odors.
