Well, my relocation project is continuing in my endless effort to decide where in the Phoenix are I'll move my family to from Texas. I've just recently discovered Estrella Mountain Ridge.

Upon entering the area, it just seems impressive. And of course, when talking to the people in the Welcome Center, they're quick to talk about how much better the area is than everywhere else.

With that said, is there anyone here that might have more information on the area? The big things we are looking for is community, schools and a good family environment. On paper it would appear that Estrella has all that, but I'd love to hear from others if that is truely the case.

Just a bit of additional information, I will have a family of 7 (me, wife, kids..16, 14, 4.5, 1.5 and what will be our last on the way).

Thanks in advance

p.s. how bad are scorpions there? uggg I need to stop reading posts about them.

I like it up there - it's a bit tucked away if you need to travel frequently to central / east phoenix - but all in all really nice

i don't live there, but I know some on this board do - i'm down the street a bit, but still in goodyear

not a ton of amenities up there, but pretty soon you'll not have to go much further than Yuma on either cotton or estrella to get most of anything you need, which is pretty close ........ also nice access to the estrella regional park ...... if you have dogs, there is also a really nice dog park right before you go up into the development

Well I truly believe it is one of the best areas in the valley and for sure on the west side. Go here - lifeinestrella.com and emrcommunityforum.us

Seems to be great for families and kids and retail is soon coming right here for groceries and with the new road to cotton lane/yuma there will be a massive retail cluster of stores about 5-10 minutes away.

Best thing, IMO is that in 10 minutes you are on the freeway and to downtown area/airport within 15 minutes if not in rush hour but you feel like you live "in the sticks".

I love it as do many others and there are others who hate it. Spend some time checking everywhere out. I made the mistake of moving to Buckeye first and barely got out of that with the skin of my teeth. Good luck!!

We were in Estrella Ranch all day Sunday. The area is beautiful, nice lake and nice community center.

We looked at the area 5 years ago and told Bashas grocery was coming back then, 5 years later same story, I guess we forgot to ask what soon meant. Lots of nice homes in the area. About 10 minutes to Avondale or Goodyear, but lots of shopping within 10 minutes now.

If you continue on Estrella Parkway past the lake and community center you will find lots of new construction. Taylor Morrison, David Weekly homes etc.

Just past them at the end of the road you will find the bankrupt Province subdivision that Engle Homes started, now bank owned, and padlocked.

It seems that the area was not as hard hit with the subprime and foreclosures as the rest of the valley, but you will find foreclosures.

Overall we were not as impressed as we were 5 years ago with the area, but it is nice.

Default yes Estrella has scorpions

I am the one who posted the bed and scorpions. We moved here about 3 weeks ago and have had plenty of scorpions in our home. More then I care to ever see. I love the community. Neighbor hoods are nice and lots to do for adults and kids, but you need to be able to live with these little creatures. As everyone says Arizona is a desert and you may see scorpions or you may not. If you cant get over them, then please dont read posts that say they have never had any in my home. because you may and then you are already here. Dont get me wrong I love it here, and would not move back to Washington State. But had my self talked in to I would probably see no scorpions or maybe 1 or 2. I have pest control and 2 cats and as you see it doesnt help. I am now just trying to learn to live with them

Well, something keeps drawing me to the area. I went down to look at a few houses again last night. Did it right from work at rush hour and while there was definate stop and go, I was suprised to get to the first house in 45 min (shocked actually).

Right now I'm just torn between finding a nice fully estabilished community in Gilbert / mesa / peoria or rolling the dice with something like Estrella or even Veraddo (I love the look there, but beyond that it's truely in the middle of nowhere).

Thanks you all for your input, and Scourt, I do wish you the best on the Scorps. I did ask owners and they all said...YUP, they're here, but it seems in the Northern older part they're not as bad. Trouble seems to come in the Southern areas with the new construction from what I'm being told. Actually saw some when looking at the properties.
