We are currently paying $163.06 a month for our COX cable bill which includes:

1. Hi-speed Internet 10-15MB ($59.95)
2. DVR basic cable + Showtime ($59.95)
3. Phone ($36.25)
4. + Taxes ($6.91)

We don't need the phone at all, however when we try and remove the phone they say they can't give us the "Bundle" discount which actually makes the bill be more than with the phone.

So, we called their sales department who gave us different pricing for just the cable($37.95 for 6mo., then $58.95 after), and internet ($44.95 9-12MB).

When we called customer service to get our account at the pricing the sales department gave us they said they couldn't and they don't see how or where they got that pricing. We think they are full of it.

Is this reasonable for a COX bill?

We have hi-speed internet, HD cable (no DVR), and phone. Our bill is approximately $150. I'd say yours sounds about right.

Kinda pricey as far as I'm concerned, Robert

Down here Qwest is advertising DSL for about 30 bucks a month. Since you don't need the phone, something to consider.

Good Luck

That is exactly what I had been paying the last 4 years. When my husband lost his job, we called cox to see how we could save money. We turned off our home phone. We have 4 cell's in the house. Then we downgraded our internet to the $19.99 a month plan. So, we are only saing about $50 bucks, but it IS savings! Hey, our internet speed is EXACTLY the same. I have seen no change!!!!

How about you try Qwest? I had Cox & bill started going up so then I called Qwest to see if they could give me a more competitive rate & they did! I'm still with them 3 years later.

I dumped Cox for their packages and only use them for high speed internet, about $40/month. They were costing $220+ for phone/cable/Internet. Dropped the land line. Picked up DirecTV for entertainment. I now pay about $160-80 or so a month for both, so it saves a bit, but I'm much happier with the TV selection from DirecTV. I could pay a lot less for them but have 4 rooms wired and get pretty much every movie channel (8 channels of HBO alone) and most tiers. If a sports fan, their packages are hard to beat. Also great if you have HD TVs.

For internet, a land line is still the best choice so I kept Cox though also shopped Qwest. They are both competitive at the basic level, but when you want higher speeds, Cox is faster and less expensive. It seems Qwest is focused more on the business customers.

Get rid of the DVR, and get the basic package which includes about 70 channels w/ the box, internet, and phone you'll pay about $100 a month. I also had the 5MB internet package as well. You really don't need that speed unless your constantly downloading items.
I acutally just dumped COX myself. I work two jobs in the IT department and go to school, so I do all my surfing while at work, and by the time I get home I'm so beat I don't even need to watch TV, I get some studying done and go to bed.

We pay about $90/month for the phone with no extras, internet, and cable with maybe 70-80 channels.

I pay a little less than $120 for internet and cable (HD receiver). I suspect you have the highest tier for internet, maybe you should downgrade that and cancel the phone completely.

This is about right given what I pay for a bundle that is slightly lower in cable features.

These high prices can can directly attributed to the salaries of professional athletes. The most expensive channels for cable companies to buy and give us are sports channels. Why?

Athletes get paid by teams, teams get paid by sports channels, sports channels get paid by cable companies and advertisers, cable companies and advertisers get paid by we, the consumers.

I'm not part of the industry and not apologizing for it - just explaining why we all pay so much for cable TV.
