Hi,

I'm new to the Phoenix area. Does anyone know anyplace where live 50's rock and roll bands play. Perhaps you know of a website that tells when and where such bands are playing in the area.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

I just decided to try a search myself, as I would prefer to square dancing. Even at the age of 76, I prefer the Twist or Rock Around the Clock etc to regimented stuff with a caller.

Let me know if you find any R&R dancing in the area. [please do not post your email address. People can respond here in the thread or send you a DM.]

Check out in Sun City or around the retirement communities in Mesa. Also check the larger RV parks. This time of year a lot of the retirement communities and RV parks bring in old acts from the 50's, 60's & 70's to entertain their guests. I work in Sun City and have noticed that the entertainment is starting to skew towards 60's & 70's era acts. Not much big band anymore and the 50's music is fading. If you are 60 years old you were listening to Led Zeppelin in high school.

Check out these guys, looks like they play once a month:

Arizona Bop Cats.com

But if you decide you want to come out of the 50s and into something more modern 60s, 70s (even 80s) you might want to check out a local band called Chuck E Baby and the All Stars they play a lot of mainstream covers, put on a good show and will play ANY request, so if you REALLY want to hear Rock Around the Clock, they will do it. They are a lot of fun.

Oh, and don't forget to check out the Rock & Roll Car Show at the Pavilions in Scottsdale every Saturday night. You will hear all the old favorites and I don't think anyone will mind if you dance a little.

I play around town in a band called The Coverups. We do alot from the 60s and 70s, not much from the 50s. You would like Chuck Morris as one of the folks above said....
