If these folks opinions have scared you off, then go to San Diego. If you want to try something different and feel these fears are overblown then give Rocky Point a try. Either way I suspect you wil have a good time - thousands of people do every year.

Nice post Ken! That sums it up.

Good for you. The warn waters of the Caribbean has long been on my list of places to get to. One of these days I'll actually make it. Lived a number of years in Europe as a kid (many years back now) and have made a few trips to the South Pacific (true paradise). Only recently have I started exploring the Southwest. I've enjoyed it all.

Shoot, I can't live in a bubble. I love Rocky Point and always have. I am getting ready to probably buy a place down there. It is no rougher than Chandler, mesa or Phoenix. I have never seen a fight, I know of none of my peers getting robbed. Compare there crime to ours...

I've never been to Rocky Point, but I have been to Mexico (Playa del Carmen and Cancun) and I never had a problem. I love Mexico. Anyway, after reading all this stuff about Rocky Point, it's now definitely on my list of places to visit when I move to AZ. Can anyone tell me if they have what I call a typical tourist "shopping district" there? You know, where they sell local arts and crafts, jewelry, restaurants, bars, T-shirts, etc . . .

There is "trinketville" on the way to Cholla Bay and the condos on Sandy Beach. There are also alot of shops at the the warf/shrimp market in town.

I have been to Cancun and personally like Rocky Point much better. I think places like Cancun/Playa Del Carmen are too commercialized. I found it actually difficult to find a good authentic Mexican Restaruant there. Although there a plenty of the big American chains like the Hard Rock & Margaritaville. If I want a true 4-5 star experience in the tropics, I go to Hawaii. Rocky Point is a 2-3 star experience with lots of authenic restaruants.
