If you are working in Tempe, Chandler is right down the road. From a valley perspective, the East Valley (Tempe/Chandler/Gilbert) is billed as more family friendly. I really like some areas of Chandler and some areas of Gilbert. As you dont have children yet, then school districts are not an issue? Kyrene (in Chandler/Tempe) is excellent as are some of the Gilbert schools (emphasis SOME) greatschools.net for an idea. Schools were a huge part of my decision. Gila Springs is an interesting neighborhood with a greenbelt and "pond", they call them lakes here. I enjoy it being from the Midwest. South Mountain is closer to Chandler and a great place for a hike or mountain bike ride. Really like Warner Ranch, but it is more expensive. I wish you the best.

I'd start with Tempe. Best public transit in the Valley, good schools, excellent parks and recreation dept with classes, activities, etc., and all the cultural "stuff" that comes by way of the university. There are some nice, somewhat neighborhoods in the central part of tempe (Between Broadway and Baseline); south Tempe is very nice, and has Kyrene Elem. District, which is very good. There are some nice homes for sale in my immediate area, and I suspect they are pretty reasonably priced. (S of Elliot, N of Warner, E of McClintock). Lots of nice neighborhoods from Baseline south.

We don't have kids yet, but plan on having some soon so a safe, family oriented location is preferred. The work commute is no big deal, we are already used to it.

Thanks in advance for the help.
Gilbert is very conservative politcally and socially but if you don't mind that, I think Gilbert is nicer than Chandler because its more new, safer and has better schools. However, I chose to live in Chandler because it's more diverse and politically moderate.
