Can someone recommend a few good temp agencies that treat their employees good, and offer decent opportunity?

I currently live in the suburbs of West Seneca, NY. I have temped for Appleone once before a few years ago, it led to a full time position with a major corporate bank.

My background is in IT, but for the past 5 years I have been working in the Banking/Financial industry.

I'd like to get back into IT, with what is going on in the banking world.

Thanks,
Justin

The jobs they post are either undesirable (low paying, crappy positions) or you simply never get them unless you are a perfect match and the position is for real.

Here is what my optimistic breakdown is for the online job listings:

~ About 30% the jobs listed are either spoken for (or possibly already filled) and listed on BS formality.

~ About 10% jobs are SPAM listed by headhunters or shady companies mainly fishing for suitable candidates or critical personal data (possible fraud)

~ About 30% are total crap jobs that no self respecting, qualified IT professional would normally want. If you are too good (overqualified) and even if you're ready to accept out of desperation, they often will not even call you thinking you would either not accept they lame offer or would leave it just as soon as you find something better.

That leaves us about 30% potentially legit jobs that were listed with ridiculous, irrelevant mixture of high requirements for the given position
which almost always indicates the following 2 things:
- They will not likely to hire the most qualified person for the job.
- The job will not likely to pay decent based on national average for that position.

Since economy and job market sucks gerbil nuts, you are likely to go against at least 300 people (despite the fact that 70+% of those do not even meet most of the requirements) will lower your chances to a point where odds of winning the Arizona State Lottery jackpot would seem higher!

Good luck and happy job-hunting!

PS. Just keep this 2 facts in mind:
* Recruiters/headhunters do not find jobs for applicants, they find suitable applicants for the jobs openings they currently have.
* Most companies do not have a clue on how to properly list job descriptions, review/interview candidates and pick the most qualified.

Default IT jobs in Phoenix

The IT market in the best of economic times is very small in Phoenix and is primarily limited to call center positions.

In a former life, I managed an IT contract recruiting department for a large banking/finance company in Tempe. It is VERY difficult to compete technically and salary-wise with H1B's and CA ex-pats. Unless you have a skill set that is in HIGH demand (high-level Oracle, Java Master, VNC, etc) - it is going to be about impossible to secure a position long distance.

Too many people come to AZ to reinvent themselves. Recruiters and hiring managers are VERY reluctant to join forces with somebody without meeting them in person. Be prepared to have stellar references, a clean credit and be able to pass a background check.

Now that the job market in Phoenix has tanked - IT jobs are VERY few and far between. The job market in Phoenix is a train wreck.
