We need to know the good parts of town on Phoenix such as inexpensive places to stay and eat and a little bit of history of Phoenix. We don't want to end up on the wrong side of town .

your comments would be appreciated

Thanks again

We booked a package through priceline (no bidding involved)..

We booked the airfare and hotel together. We ended up staying at the Fiesta Resort in Tempe. The website rate for this room is $159. I figured it out, we stayed there for $44 plus tax. Check the reviews on the internet, its a good deal for what we paid.

Very safe area..

The questions you are asking are very broad.

It's still high season here until the end of this month, or some places April 15. I don't know what you mean by "inexpensive" in terms of hotels.

The chain hotels/motels are in perfectly fine parts of town, the hotels in Tempe, Chandler, Scottsdale are all basically fine in terms of safely. Sounds like those internet deals might work out pretty well.

As far as inexpensive food, getting a hotel room with a fridge and a micro will allow you to keep snacks, etc in the room to keep costs down. A lot of the good motel chains, and some other places, have a free breakfast. We have a lot of chain restaurants here, though probably not the same as Ky (we have no Steak and Shake here, for one! )

History? I'll let someone else start in on that... too late in a long day!

Let us know more specifics about what you are looking for and what tourist type activities interest you.

the Phx metro area is very big and everything you might want is here....

quickly: most locals consider the "bad" areas of town to be west of about 7th Ave and south of maybe Indian School - very generally speaking....if you're hoteling/moteling it, you probably won't end up there anyway....there are entirely safe areas in that area I mentioned and not-so-good 'hoods in Mesa, Scottsdale, etc......

if you want to eat inexpensively, get a room with a fridge or mini-kitchen as another here said....Residence Inn, Extended Stay America, and many other chains are designed for long-term types....otherwise, Phx has all the usual cheap chains and buffets all over....ask when you get here for a nearby place

history: I'm a history buff and there is not a lot here...Pueblo Grande museum for native American stuff, downtown Tempe has done well with its early 1900s buildings now turned into a decent urban-living spot, Mesa Arizona Temple for LDS/Mormon history, very little authentic stuff in downtown Phx except for a few older buildings to walk by, the old Capitol, old RR station, etc...Az Historical Society has a new museum in Papago Park....Taliesin West is Frank Lloyd Wright's western school built in the 30s and open for expensive tours
