My Husband and I are relocating at the end of April. We flew down 2 weeks ago and rented an apartment. I'm from Chicago and have lived in the Northwest Suburbs (Schaumburg) for awhile. I eventually moved to the northside of the city. Dearborn/Division, Logan Square, Bucktown. I too love Chicago but the same issues that bothered you bothered us as well. It's cool living in Chicago in your 20's, then you can get that really cheap place with "Character" and have good times. But things change when you get older. My Husband and I love Arizona and we know we won't have a difficult time with the adjustment. We found phoenix to have a completely different vibe than the midwest. Much more laid back. I kinda felt it had an LA feel without the snobbery. My husband and I are both in our 30s and were looking for similar things that you are. We found a great apartment complex in Arcadia. The vibe in that area was the best! It felt mature. Not too young and definitely not too old. Very hip and social. It's also centrally located. At first I thought we were not going to be able to afford to live in the area but we found very reasonable housing in a very well maintained complex.

Yup, there's THAT many Chicagoans. I met more folks from Chicago in Arizona, than I did while living in suburban Chicago. Joking, but not by much. Our next door neighbor in Arizona was from a suburban Chicago town not 20 miles from our old suburb in Chicago. A couple we became friends with were also from Chicago. The woman across the street...and on and on, all from Chicago. Who knew?

If we were still in Chicago, we'd probaly never would have met these people or been friends with them perhaps.

haha, just cause I thought that was funny.....the lowest average high at any point of the year is about a 10 day strech in January where the temp is 31 degrees. It's ususally only sub-zero a handful of times a year - not 5 months.

November starts with averages still around 60 degrees, and it's back in the 50's by March.

I moved to Chicago from Phoenix and hate it.

Besides the heat, the quality of life is so much better in Phoenix.

I'm trying to move back asap.

Try a little site called Weather.com. Snow storm coming tomorrow. Also, the average in November is a lot closer to 40, which I still find quite comfortable. And obviously that comment about 5 months of sub zero was exaggerated for the sake of effect.

On another note, FIB was invented by our "friends" in Wisconsin. Nice, huh, and after all the money we spend on vacations there!
