I drive by that area every day to and from my shop. The house on top of the mountain in the first pic actually burned down a few years back and has not been rebuilt. I guess the fire dept can't get up the road to the top therefore you can't get insurance w/o redoing the road.

Spent part of yesterday at the Chandler Mall, what a paradise, upper class all the way, lots of good looking people, etc. Just like Metro Center when it opened.

I bet no one is taking photos of the shops though; in a few years most of stores will be gone and 35 years from now people will be asking for photos in this forum.

Here are some shots of Los Arcos if you want to see a mall that died before it even opened, the last photo says it all. I bet no one has seen those odd glass balls in the fountain under the corner sign without calcium deposits all over them.

My sister owned the bakery in Metro for several years. Thanks for all the memories of the International Cafe and Kellar, Skomers, Hot Sam, and some of the other old stores. I still hate the railing around the upper level-- it is just a little low, and I'm quite tall. I never walked close to it, especially when the mall was crowded.

Cave Creek and Union Hills. I remember being taken out to what I now know to be that area as a small child, in the very early 60's, to look at a pony to buy. We lived in the Arcadia area, and felt like we were driving to the middle of nowhere. I miss those days. Thanks for the pics!

It is not mentioned but there has also been big changes at Colonnade Mall (between 16th and 20th streets on the southside of Camelback). The area has been altered beyond recognition.

Isn't that the truth???? Drive by there a few times a month, and it is pretty much unrecognizable from its initial days as the old "Sears-Rhodes" mall.

I always loved the rolling floors in mall proper. They did that becase the whole mall was built in a wash which is odd because the was a downstairs underground part.
