The difference between Phoenix and Chicago is like night and day.

After a long winter, arriving to the desert was like heaven. I had so much energy from the sun it was like I was on speed. I kept myself busy hiking mountains, going to the gym, swimming, bar hopping, shopping. I was able to go the gym and finally do exercises and machines I wanted instead of having people ask me to get off machines at over crowed gyms in Chicago. It was so nice being able to drive on smooth roads with no potholes, not having to dodge taxis, potholes, AND people! and traffic? It was a breeze. At least they made an attempt to time the traffic signals here.

Even the people were an improvement. After dropping my rental car off, an employee saw me walking on the street and asked if I needed a ride. Don't count on that here! I noticed people made small talk at the grocery store, the mall, even the airport. The light rail was clean, quiet, and modern but its route and slow speed puzzles me compared to Chicago.

When I came back to Chicago it is warmer then what I left but still kinda cloudy.

Question First time?

Was that your first visit to the valley? How long did your stay?

That was the first thing I noticed when I moved here 15 years ago...the people are happy. Sunshine does that to you.

My thoughts exactly...I moved to Scottsdale from WI in 97...most days are like a living vacation - as far as surroundings at least...the sun does make people happier...I get back to WI once a year for a couple weeks and always realize how great I have it in AZ...
