Our family is in the process of moving to the Phoenix area from Dallas. We have narrowed the search to Scottsdale - Shea Corridor. We also thought about Fountain Hills. What can you tell me about Fountain Hills? We have 2 boys 11 and 12 yrs. old.

Have you done a search here on Fountain Hills? That will likely give you a lot of information from prior posts.

I can tell you that living in FH will lengthen your commute to Phoenix or other work location in the Valley , and many shopping needs can't be met there-- you'd have to drive into Scottsdale. As far as activities for kids, I would think Scottsdale would be better, but I have no specific information.

I tried to search on here for Fountain Hills, but didn't find much. We work out of the home, so would only have to commute for meetings, etc. We thought Fountain HIlls is a beautiful area with great views, but not sure of the schools there. Also, my husband thought it may have alot of retired people and not many kids.

It is pretty out there, but I would wonder about the percentage of families with kids vs retirees. Here's a link to the website for the school district, if that helps. Fountain Hills DO: Home

The school district has an interesting setup I hadn't seen before. One school for pre-K through second grade, one for 3-5, one for 6-8, and the high school for 9-12.

There's some interesting info on the Fountain Hills webisite, www.fh.az.gov , including demographics. 82 percent of the population is over 18, the median age is 48, compared to 33 for the rest of the Phoenix metro area.
