AZ education makes me worrisome for my kids. My older daughter just told me again tonight that she didn't learn anything for 2 years. I teach her at home a lot, I know it is true. I may not be able to relocate to other places with current economy. I told myself I need to find a best school in the area as she is a star student. Anyone can recommend some schools that can really can compete on the national level?

The Madison school district has a reputation for having good schools. I personally am familiar with Madison #1 Middle School (very good) and North High School's IB/Honors program (excellent).

I think so called good schools in AZ is only good when you only compare with arizona standard.

Well, nice attitude, and sure plays to the stereotype that no one gets a good education here, but you are here, evidently can't leave, and you asked a question about schools that can "compete on a national level". (I guess I'm not sure what that means, so that's another question for you). You haven't answered the questions about the grade level of your daughter, or where she is in school now. Until then, I can't begin to evaluate her statement that she "hasn't learned anything in two years".

If she's truly a star student, there are districts in the Valley that will serve her well. I sit on one of the scholarship commitees at ASU, and have had the pleasure for several years now to review applications from, and in some cases meet, "star students" from all over the Valley (and elsewhere in the state) Those young people do, and will continue to "compete on a national level" as I define that.

EDIT: I guess this means you aren't moving to Texas or Washington state?

You are posting in several forms asking about potential places to live. You have already formed an negative impression of Arizona schools and have stated that good schools are important to you. Okay, that answered your question. Don't move here and likewise don't post here since you've already answered your own question. I respect your opinion of Arizona schools but if you have already formed your opinion, don't waste your time or the people of this forum who are trying to help you.

You could move to Tucson. It has the top rated public high school in the nation according to Newsweek.

So what are your qualifications to judge school quality? Are you an educator or simply someone who would rather be in Texas as you have posted all over the forum? Unfortunately, public schools have to work with what walks through the door. Maybe your daughter is not as bright as you think she is and that is why she is not learning "anything". Maybe you are not as bright as you think you are either. So many unknowns....

Not really. The OP has already formed an opinion, evidently, and isn't really looking for answers to the question he asked. I enjoy helping people who really want help/information on this forum. From this thread, and looking at the history, it doesn't look like he's one of them.

You're probably right about already forming an opinion and then asking people to support it with loaded questions.

I guess my point was - that after a year or so of reading the Phoenix forum "certain" posters seem to be really harsh and unnecessarily rude. Just would be nice for people to either be nice or go home...sorry if my comment was annoying. I am trying to be extra nice today
