which company offers the cheapest phone service. we are looking for something basic just so we can activate an alarm as we are part timers.

also, would vonage be adequate to arm the alarm as it's internet based?

which internet service can i combine with phone that would be most cost-effective.

thanks in advance.

No, you cannot use vonage.

I had Cox, and when I set up my bundle of High-Speed internet and Digital Cable, they gave be a basic phone line for free with no features. I never used it, but I had it just in case my cell was dead or something.

I think a basic Qwest line with no long distance (but unlimited local calling) is about $15.00 per month after taxes and fees.

Qwest also offers DSL which is their version of high speed Internet, but I am not sure if it is the best price available for Internet access.

Maybe they finally changed then, 'cause about 7 years ago it was $15 for basic service, which came out to be $27 after taxes and their multitude of fees.

Cable internet tends to be better out here in Phoenix because it is so spread out and for DSL to be more effective you need to be closer to their "box" (and they just suck, but that's more personal opinion ).

called qwest their basic phone service is $13/mo and with taxes it worked out to $21. all in rate for both phone and internet worked out to $46/mo. however COX was able to do this for $41 all in. once again this is just for basic phone and internet service. can anyone recommend a cheaper option or is this basically it? thanks.

Magicjack $40 first year, $20 next year or special was $69 for 5 years.
I use mine for faxes and calls, if you dont mind the alarm wiring plugging into your computer, its not a bad deal if you have internet anyway. I could bet it works fine.
