Recently there has been a lot of back and forth about the heat here in Phoenix. This event just shows that no matter how low the humidity can get here, 110 degree weather is no joke.

Sad story. Apparently his mother was yelling at him to get up off the ground. On top of that, the mother very rudely refused water from another hiker...telling her to mind her own business.

She should be charged with child abuse. No joke.

How can you have your child hiking for 4 hours in Phoenix in July with no water? The fact that she refused water from another hiker shows me that these parents were abusive. Was the child on punishment for something?

Child abuse, Miamiman?

As far as I'm concerned she's an IDIOT and should be charged with MURDER!

True! Considering the fact that she rejected water from someone shows that she obviously did not care about the child's well-being. This is really a horrible story.

Apparently the whole group had to be treated for dehydration. None of them had any common sense about hiking for 4 1/2 hours in the heat, and the effects of dehydration only made them more irrational and foolhardy than they already were. This is a totally unavoidable tragedy.

STUPID, STUPID choices. They are from ALASKA. They should have had some common sense; would they go hiking for 4.5 hours in sub zero or freezing temps unprepared? And refusing water??? Child endangerment charges at the least! They basically killed their 14 year old son.

Child abuse and be fined whatever the charge it is to refuse someone water in our state.
