Shop and Ask Questions

This is a note to warn you to check everything out although I didn't know the questions to ask, since as a Cox customer I didn't have a contract.

Moderator cut: sorry, no consumer complaints allowed
The price has gone up $20 per month. In that year they have cut off some of the channels I use to have so I have less and am paying more.

So ask about a contract and what the penalities are if you break it? After all many people are losing jobs and besides their income lost they are being penalized by companies because they cannot pay their bills and must turn in equipment. But it is ok for the companies to not pay their bills!

Secondly ask about the price change or if you are buying a deal that will change and when?

I've had both; I prefer Dish. Look into a Free-To-Air system, or just watch www.wherevertv.com

Default re: consumer complaints

From the Terms of Service, to which every poster agreed upon registration:
"This is not the right place for consumer complaints. Such posts present defamation issues and they don't give the other side the opportunity to present their side of the argument."

Dish is a bit cheaper - their marketing is based on savings. But I've got no complaints with DirecTV. It might cost about the same or more as cable, but they deliver loads of HD channels and have a great mix of other offerings. For example, they carry the Mtn channel which is a sports network for a number of colleges out west. Cox wasn't interested in adding it so I moved to DirecTV.

Does anyone else with DirectTV experience poor loading times for channels, and their DVR? Seems as my DVR fills up it takes 30-60 seonds to pull up the guide/list.

I'm very happy with Dish. I switched from DirecTV to Dish about 3 years ago and haven't looked back. I have the ALL HD channel plan with DVR for 2 rooms for only $40.

Their DVR has a very easy interface and you can control recordings and schedules online from anywhere.

There is a lawsuit against Dish from TiVo regarding their DVR. It's been bouncing around the courts for a while now.

Moderator cut: orphaned quotes
Quite often THE TRUTH HURTS . . . a good consumer does their research before making a purchase, especially a product or service that requires a contract. What better way to research a product than to speak with happy and/or unhappy customer?

Besides, are there any rules restricting a satisfied Dish or DirectTV customer from stating the positives?

An unhappy customer makes a consumer complaint. C-D does not allow that. If you can't tell from the title of this thread what the other company is, send me a DM and I'll explain it. You can talk about what company you like and say you didn't like another one, WITHOUT going into details.
