I am moving to the Glendale, AZ area at the end of May, from south of Baltimore, MD, getting bombarded with moving quotes and calls. Does anyone have suggestions.. u haul? moving company?
Thanks!

My Brother-In-Law saved about $1000 when they used Penske instead of U-Haul. They went from Phoenix to north, north, north Michigan. Then there are those "pods" that you pack up yourself and they drive it for you. Also, sometimes the rental companies have a larger truck that's cheaper. Even if you don't need all the room, you could save money that way.

If you drive it yourself, just remember to add in the cost of tolls as you drive through the east to the mid-west. It gets expensive after a while.

That's a heckuva long drive. I've done Boston to IA, and Biloxi to Phoenix, but that drive beats any move I've ever done. If you're doing it alone, a friend might be a great help on the drive as you could take turns and just sleep in the truck.

I don't think there are any tolls between Baltimore and Phoenix. At least there's not between Baltimore and Dayton, and I hope there's not any between Ohio and AZ because we're doing the same thing in June.

We are undecided as to whether we're renting a truck or hiring movers. It will depend on how much we end up moving. 2700lbs is not that much so you may be able to tackle that. The worst part will be unloading by yourself in 100+ heat when you get there!

What about your vehicle- will you ship that? or tow it behind a truck? Or if you hire a moving company will you drive your own vehicle?

Remember to that moving rates tend to be significantly less if one's destination has people mostly heading away since there is a need to additional vehicles there.

Here's a link to US Tolls. I know we paid some in Kansas.
