I am somewhat new to the valley. I'm just looking to get out and about more. Any recommendations? I like to hike and be outdoors. I also have a 3 year old, so any fun places for little ones. Places either in the valley or a good day trip. Thanks!

Water parks are going to be huge thing during the summer AND KIDS LOVE 'EM!! Wet N' Wild, Sunsplash, Big Surf, and other small ones. As for hiking, there are too many trails to name in the valley. South Mountain, Squaw Peak, Pass Mountians( Scarface). There are many lakes in and around the city limits, check those out. If you like snow go to Northern Arizona or Mt.Lemmon, beaches what about San Diego (don't spend money there, we're boycotting them), Vegas is also just in a short drive, and if you love the cool mountain air as it gently blows through a pine forest also travel to Northern and Eastern Arizona. You can do so much without actually taking the whole weekend to make a day trip somewhere.
With so many possiblities I can't even name them all.

Thanks Phxguy, I'm definitely going to check it out. I just googled hikes around phoenix and you're right, there are tons! I just want to get out and enjoy it here so I know if I want to call it home forever... I want to go explore this state atleast once a week, and by the sounds of it I won't get bored! I already went to San Diego and it was alright, but I probably won't be making a trip back anytime soon, and Vegas doesn't appeal to me that much either. Thanks again!

A day trip to Tonto Natural Bridge, just outside of Payson is nice.

I thought they closed that. Last I heard it was one of the parks to be closed. I know the one in Jerome is still closed.

Never mind. Shoulda clicked on the link before I wrote that. I see it's opened with 'limited' hours/days. That's good because it really is a great place to go.
