Shooting a tugboat is a threat to national security now?? Seriously?? Were you using a bazooka or tossing grenades??? What a mess this country is in to say taking pictures is not allowed...... show more tugboats !!!!!
Just about any port in the US now has eyes... if you stay too long in one spot and shot only that spot you may be question by Coast Guard or Home Land Security Agents.. Depends on what your photgraphing..

I was told by a crew member on the grey tug in those pics that they are supposed to report to the coast guard on people photographing tugs and tankers. He really liked what I had shown him on my iPhone had told me to proceed! A very nice guy and totally understanding.
He also told me they have all of these threat documentation and the like on board.... Like soneones gonna takeover a tug and ram a bridge or something. He rolled his eyes.
Beautiful shots, the weather adds a nice mood as well!
Here is a tug boat on display at the South Street Seaport in New York City. The Helen McAlister has a long and distinguished history. She was a working vessel built in 1900, and served as a tug boat in ports in North Carolina and New York City until she was retired in 2000. Originally steam-powered, the tug was refitted with a diesel engine after World War II. She is permanently docked in South Street as part of a display of maritime vessels and is the only remaining tug of her generation in a New York harbor.
