I woke up to this huge Yacht sitting in our front yard which happens to be the Monterey Bay.

At first we didn't know what it was. But later we heard that it is owned by a Russian billionaire Andrey Melinchenko, a 38-year-old Russian businessman who made his money in banking, fertilizer and coal. Forbes magazine currently puts Melinchenko's net worth at $4.4 billion... Known as the "A" — the mega-yacht features luxuries most of us can hardly dream up, like a glass-bottomed pool built atop a disco or a plush room with walls covered in stingray hides. -- http://cbs13.com/local/mega.yacht.anchors.2.1867844.html.

Anyway he pulled into the Bay at a really nice time and caught a great sunset tonight. Although I'm a little miffed that I haven't been envited onboard yet for champagne.

Derek

Probably just an oversight that you haven't been invited out yet. When you do go out (no later than tonight or tomorrow at the outside) remember to NOT go skinny-dipping in the pool over the disco .

Don't see anyplace for downriggers or fishing poles on the rig, kind of useless if you ask me. A boat without downriggers... Bah, amateur.

Yacht? That's the biggest yacht I have ever seen! Look at it next to the sailboats, it's massive. Nice pics. Never quite understood the rich and their yachts. More of a Lamborghini guy myself

At first, the yacht didn't appear that big to me. Then I noticed that the sailboats looked like ants in comparison. Both pics are really nice, but that first one showing the sailboats really gives you the perspective of the massive yacht.

It sure would have been nice if you could have been invited aboard to sip champagne and watch the sunset!

I read the Phillipe Stark the famed French designer designed the yacht. I don't see it as one of his better designs. It is big and it grabs your attention. But beautiful it is not. It looks more garish than tasteful. If he designed to get everybodys attention . . . well it certainly does that!

Just looked it up here. It is 394' in length. The 2 landing boats (which you can see one in the opening on the side in the photos) are 36' long themselves. Engines produce around 24,000 Horsepower and it costs around 1/2 a million dollars just to fill up the fuel tanks.

Yep, makes my 1958 Lone Star ElDorado (18' long) look a bit on the smallish side . At least I can afford to fill mine, if I owned the "A" I wouldn't be able to afford the gas to leave the marina.

nice grabshot! I wonder what it costs to refuel & keep that baby afloat? I wouldn't be surprised if those megayachts costs $10M/yr or more to maintain.

Like Bydand said just before your post, it costs $500,000 (half a mil) to gas it up. That's worse than a Hummer!
