In the 11 X 14 size? I can find the white in that size all day, but the only black size I have found is 22 X 28". I bought a piece and no matter what method I use to cut it it always looks like crap. I have found it online but I need it by next weekend and I doubt I can get it here that fast. I've checked the usual places like AC Moore, Michaels, Joanns, camera stores, Office Depot, etc with no luck. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated, thanks!
An art supply store? Here in Jacksonville we have a place called Reddi Arts and they carry it in just about all sizes. Heres a link to their website so you can see what kind of art supply place I'm referring to... Welcome to Reddi Arts!
Actually, your problem isn't finding it, it's cutting it! What are you using to cut it with? Don't you know someone with a table saw and a veneer cutting blade?
Have you tried an Exacto knife and steel (or aluminum) yardstick or straight-edge? Even if the edges look a bit raggedy, can't you use black masking tape to clean
them up to a presentation finished edge? You might try asking at the local sign shop, they'd probably be able to help you, maybe even have a scrap of black Sintra
around, it's better than fomecore and almost as light in weight, the core is black too! Perhaps it's time to buy a matte-cutter and a straight-edge, a small investment
that will be amortized over the life of your photographic career, those items will serve you well, no matter the cost. Whatever the outcome, good luck...
Also, if you're trying to mount (attaching the photo on top of the front of the board) versus matte (cutting out the middle of the board and attaching the photo on the back of the board so it shows through the window), you should really use something other than double sided tape. I prefer to use a mount press but there are adhesive sprays you can use if you don't have access to a mount press.
I order my pre-cut black foam board (also for contests) from Jerry's Artarama (Jerry's Pro Foam). You can buy it in boxes of 25 and they do sell the size you are looking for.
