"Early last year an earthquake and tsunami struck Japan, bringing to a halt production for Canon and Nikon, two of the biggest camera manufacturers. As Japan started to recover, flooding hit Thailand, destroying many of Nikon's parts manufacturing plants. Since then Kew's has faced long waits and back orders on simple parts they need to repair their customers' cameras. These events were just a prelude, however, to the latest challenge. On Jan. 14 Kew opened
a letter from Nikon telling him that in six months the company would stop selling parts to independent repair shops like Kew's."

Camera technicians worried about uncertain future
Everytime I read reviews for cameras, the review for service from the manufacturer when something doesn't work is always a bigger horror story than the review for the camera.
How many here have had their cameras serviced by independents like the subject of the article or have a story to tell about their repair experiences with independents or the camera manufacturer?.
