Very good tip forgetting the whole of the image in focus. The first time I was told I'd be shooting stopped down all the way to 22 I was really confused. One of my best shots was taken at f32. Now resolving power is usually better at f8-f16 depending on the lens model model and manufacturer. I've been taught too the rill of focusing 1/3 the way in but don't rely on it. I'd rather shoot stopped down with longer exposure using tripod. With the field film camera the bellows can be adjusted to place the image on the film for max depth of field at the sweet spot of the lens. EG you have brought up a most helpful tip to those who have not used this technique. I have a set of PDF document for various lens and their infinity focal points. It would help me to put them in a notebook and carry. Carrying exposures in my head calculated off of the sunny sixteen rule is enough. That would be another great tip for someone to explain how the math works.

Make the camera lie to make somethings look bigger than like. The 5'6" syndrome can get boring. In the following photo the rider was definitely not higher that the tree. Maybe only half way up it but look:

The angle of the camera determines the composition along with lens used.

And this kid is not riding this way but with rapid frames you get the right one that makes him look like he is:

One more think before I have to go... Think about should this be a portrait (vertical) or landscape (standard horizontal shot). The less need to crop to get the right composition the better.

As silly as this sounds, always check your equipment before leaving home.

I got all set up in front of the Bellagio at night and the battery in my remote switch was dead
