Hmm, July and Aug? I imagine the migratory birds would be gone to cooler climate by then. The temps there that time of year will be running well over 100F, as high as 120F. However the owls live there year-round and they like the heat. So they will probably be active. They're tough to spot. You'll see them off of almost any road that has a cement irrigation culvert as that's where they like to make their burrows. Drive slow and watch carefully, because they're really hard to spot. Basically you're looking for a dirt clump with eyes.
