Thanks. Ideally, I wanted black background but couldn't find a perfectly black paper. So went with white instead. I did adjust white balance later (after posting these picture) since the original shot was taken under CFL (and, unfortunately, using flash). Will see if I can swap out these older pictures for new ones (taken in day light, no flash and white balance properly compensated for), as I work on trying to come up with another idea for this assignment.

I did swap the off-white background for black (but in raw form it looks a bit unnatural after my first attempt), instead went on with special effects and posted them here.

ok,,, going for the obvious splash of color from flowers, but these were so vibrant, I couldn't resist!

Lighting was an issue with this one too... the sun was behind the flower shining SUPER bright & HOT! But it made the front appear in total darkness. I debated about using this in the 'Lighting' assignment but decided the colors were too brilliant and were really more of the focus than the lighting. I used the lighting from the back to really bring out the almost neon glow from inside the flower!

Someone asked what the yellow flower was... (BTW, thanks for the rep, that was very kind of you, whomever you are?)

Its a 'Yellow King Humbert' in the Canna family (or Canna lily, although not a true lily) ... you can see a pix of it in full bloom at this link. FYI, Although I did take the photo posted below, I did not take the photo in the link I just provided in this post.... I'm simply offering it so you can see the full bloom. YIKES, just want to make sure there isn't any copyright confusion!
