When I was just starting out, I found this book to be of help for me. There are actually several printings of the text going all the way back to the early 1980’s. While the “focus” (pardon the pun) is on film, I found much of the information translating well to DSLRs. Also, there are some pictures in the book that remind the elders how far we’ve come in technology.

How to Take Good Pictures, Revised Edition (Paperback)
Author: Kodak
Paperback: 192 pages
Publisher: Ballantine Books; Rev Sub edition (September 5, 1995)
ISBN-10: 034539710X
ISBN-13: 978-0345397102
