According to this link Pittsburgh is losing population big time. Take a look a tell what you think. Just place your pointer on Allegheny Co.

I don't know if you can tell from this interactive map. You have to click on the counties that people have moved to to see the numbers, (more people moved here from Dade County than left for Dade County, for example). In fact, the 2009 census estimates that were just releases show a very small population gain for Allegheny County since 2008. I would imagine that the official 2010 census, when released next year, will show that the metro area lost people since 2000, but probably by the smallest number in a generation. Most signs point to a more stable population in the last half of the decade. It has more to do with the birth and death rate than with people leaving.

I totally agree with airwave and geeo. I think the bump in people leaving during the mid decade was a little over estimated probably. I think we will have a higher population than estimated for the 2010 census as with what happened in the 200 census.

Nope, recent data suggests that net in-migration is now overcoming net natural loss (the latter of which is a byproduct of the steel bust youth diaspora). We are particularly gaining among younger, more-educated adults.

A lot of the counties appear to have a lot of red also but you have to look inside the counties to get a better picture.

Oh, and I'm not sure how we will stack up versus the 2000 Census, but I suspect the 2010 Census will show we are a bit bigger and younger than the current estimates suggest.
