I've never been in Homewood, and with its reputation, I am a little hesitant to use the Busway station there. Is it a safe walk for a young female from Penn and Braddock? Is it safe to wait for the bus there alone?

I've never had any problems at the Homewood Station. I'm not a female, but I often take the bus from there with my 6-year-old daughter, and I wouldn't do that if I didn't feel it was safe. I also have a female co-worker who lives in Point Breeze who uses the station for commuting to Oakland. For walking from Penn and Braddock, I think taking Penn to Homewood Ave., then down to the station is safe.

I see young women get on and off the bus at Homewood all the time. For what it is worth, the stop is well-lit, well-separated from the surrounding areas, and I believe there are video cameras. It seems to me that would be a pretty dumb place to try something.

Though, something being a 'dumb' idea has never stopped the criminal element before...

Basically Homewood Ave. (between the Busway and Penn Ave.) is OK? Is this considered Homewood or Point Breeze? The reason I ask is that there is a possibility I may be looking at an apartment at the corner of Penn and Lexington and the busway is not far from there. Is that a safe area in general?

That's North Point Breeze:

It is certainly a bit more transitional than Point Breeze, particularly as you get towards the Busway, but statistically it isn't less safe than, say, Friendship or Lawrenceville (Point Breeze is a tough comparison, as it is among the very lowest-crime neighborhoods in the City).
