I liked the pictures of the other cities as well, though I don't really think Minneapolis and Houston are "underrated".

I was surprised that they considered Portland to be underrated.

That one, too! I think Portland sort of is underrated on the west coast, but not in the rest of the country.

I gather "underrated" was defined in terms of travel destinations. Anyway, as always, I am less interested in the undoubtedly dubious methodology than the mere fact Pittsburgh is regularly appearing on these lists these days.

while nightlife is suddenly sizzling in neighborhoods like Oakland and the Strip District,
This aren't the two neighborhoods I'd think of if asked about Pittsburgh's "sizzling nightlife."

When Schools are in Oakland is a 24hr Neighborhood....the Strip still has nightlife but not on the level of the Rosebud Millenium days.

Well, at one time they were pretty decent. In the 1980s, suburbanites would flock to Oakland to party with the college kids at places like Zelda's, Peter's Pub, The Upstage, The Attic, Sanctuary, Caleco's, The Decade, Hemingway's, C.J. Barneys and others. By 1990, the party gradually started to shift across the river to East Carson and the South Side to places like Mario's and Margaritaville. By 1995, South Side had totally become king of nightlife in Pittsburrgh. The nightlife in Oakland in 2010 is primarily students as opposed to suburbanites and people from other city neighborhoods.

Metropol opened on Smallman in The Strip 1988. In 1990, Rosebud opened next door to Metropol along with Donzi's and The Boardwalk. By the mid to late 1990s, there were several clubs opened like BAR Pittsburgh, Banana Joe's, Pluto's, Have a Nice Day Cafe, Chemistry, and several others. By the early 2000s the scene started to dwindle due to crime. When several people were shot at Touch in 2005, it put the last nail in the coffin of Strip nightlife. A few years ago, the Boardwalk closed and floated down the river. I foresee The Strip nightlife making a comeback in the next decade as the Smallman Street corridor is slated for redevelopmet. I envision more pub type establishments and live entertainment as opposed to dancing and places to get jiggy with it.
