Hi Everyone,

After living in New York City for the majority of my 20s, I've decided to move home and give Pittsburgh a try as an adult. I grew up in the suburbs but would rather live in the city or a city-like environment. Suggestions? My friends that still live in the 'burgh are married and starting families. I'm 28 and single. Suggestions on where to live, hang out, etc... would be greatly appreciated. I'm nervous but excited! Thank you in advance

Describe what you are looking for. Pittsburgh offers many neighborhoods to live in that can fit many different types of people.

Do you know where you would be working? What would your housing budget be?

Some standard neighborhoods to consider would be the South Side, Downtown, Shadyside, and Squirrel Hill.

haha the Big Apple Burnout has finally hit me! I'm looking for a place with other young, professional, single people. I don't want to party with 18 year-old's, but I definitely don't want to live in a quiet, suburban setting. Cost isn't really a factor (compared to what I pay now, I'll be saving a lot) and I'm self employed, so work location isn't really a factor either. I'm a writer who enjoys being around other artists, but definitely not hipster wannabe's. Now, I'm getting too specific Thanks for the help everyone!

Yep, I'd recommend you start out in Shadyside. It sounds like a good fit, and it also makes an excellent first neighborhood in Pittsburgh, in part because you can easily get from there to a bunch of other neighborhoods to check them out.

But you might also look at living Downtown--it is pretty reasonable for such an area, and there is a small but growing young professional scene, plus again it is very easy to get around from there.

It doesn't matter what you said you were looking for, everyone here would have recommended shadyside. Personally, I think we should either cram the entire population of the city into shadyside, and possibly annex all of the surrounding neighborhoods into shadyside.
