Front office FAIL.

The new guy has been cut numerous times and has missed even more kicks.

Knee jerk reaction takes the place of rational thinking and coaching.

I give yinzer nation 2 games until they are asking why we cut Reed.

My gut feeling is that the problems run deeper than just his poor performance this year. He is one of the five highest paid kickers in the game, and yet, he feels that he is being victimized constantly by his fans, the media, the field, ownership, etc..I don't view this as a knee jerk reaction, but more a case of a team that is recognizing that the guy has problems beyond the football field. The Steelers need a kicker who epitomizes team excellence , not a former potential star who has allowed himself to become an out-of-shape egotist blaming all for his indiscretions and errors.

Yeah. My instincts tell me that his record this season isn't the whole story.

Not only does Jeff Reed have the worst FG percentage in the NFL this season, but he balked at a contract extension this past off-season (wasn't rich enough for him), and now he's bitching about the condition of the turf at Heinz Field, even though it was worse when he was better, and he's also bitching about some of the fans giving him a hard time...well, he deserves to be given a hard time because of his FG percentage. He had two jobs: 1) kick FGs, which he's no longer reliable for, and 2) kick the ball off to the opponent, preferably in the end zone, which he was never reliable for. If he can't do either of those things reliably, then he's useless, and he talked his way out of a job.

With Reed kicking like he was, they'd never make the playoffs. They were lucky to win against Atlanta with his critical miss, he missed 2 against Baltimore in a 3-point loss, he failed to put Cinci away and was bailed out by Taylor and Harrison, then missed a chip shot against NE and blamed the field. All of that could be forgiven based on his past performances, but he knew what could happen when he chose to mouth off the other day. I agree that Suisham appears to be no prize (and probably isn't), but Reed was out of work in the middle of a season in 2002 when they picked him up too.

The beginning of the end was last season in Chicago, when Reed missed two FG attempts and the Steelers lost by three. He's been in decline since.

Jeff is a veteran and although he is not having a great year, he did have many for us. I think a lot of his bad behavior decisions have made people look at him in a more negative way then they would have had he not been acting out. I was hoping he would retire a Steeler. Oh well, though, such is life, I suppose. FAREWELL, Jeff.
