Which is pretty much the problem with this entire thread, (and why it shouldn't have been bumped by the dude with multiple bans).... Lawrenceville was perfectly safe in the first decade of the century... anybody saying otherwise is speaking from secondhand sources.

My mother purchased a home in Stanton Heights in 1999. She needed a suburban lot for grand kids but wanted to be closer to Lawrenceville. I have to admit that I was skeptical but she loved the small shops that were popping up at the time. My mother buys local during the holidays and since 1999 most of our gifts come from Butler Street.

I'm not entirely sure I'd call it perfectly safe for the first half of the decade (things were not looking so good for L'ville from 1995-2002 I'd say), but from 2005 onward things have been nothing but up for the neighborhood. It was still ridiculous how disconnected many were from reality as recent as 5 years ago there though. Pretty glad I had the last laugh when all of the suburbanites kept telling me how bad and trashy my neighborhood was when I was younger.

Ok... there was some minor incidence of gang activity in a couple of the alleys in the 50s (Dresden, Natrona)... but to my knowledge, it never significantly involved anyone who wasn't directly involved. There may have been some other very small pockets of ne'er-do-wells, but this can also be said about the vast majority of neighborhoods. L-Ville is a pretty big area with several distinct sections, and I honestly didn't know anyone who was the victim of anything other than very minor property crimes during the time I lived there (99-04). By 2003, when I was looking to purchase a home, I was already feeling like I missed the boat on the best deals.
