I believe the Mills' Borders is under a long-term lease as BrianTH pointed out, so that's probably why it's staying put for now.

I would have thought bankruptcy would give them a chance to break such leases. So I was discounting length of remaining lease as an issue. I mean, surely the lease length remaining at Eastside is similarly long? I dunno. I can't imagine they aren't breaking a lease there, anyway.

I hope the soon-to-be-vacated site in East Liberty doesn't stay abandoned for as long as the former Barnes & Noble on Murray Avenue in Squirrel Hill continues to be.

The store at the Mills always has customers in it. Not crowded, but you may have to wait at the cash register.

The Borders at the Mills is one of the few stores I would go up there to shop at.

Bankruptcy may allow a lease termination, but you still may have to pay some sort of termination fee. Also, looking forward you might choose to keep stores open in part because they have more favorable/less-costly lease terms.

Besides, I think the Mills could be a good site for a B&N in case Borders goes under.

I doubt that B&N is going to last much longer either.

Right, the Borders at the Mills probably does quite alright. I can safely say, it's always busier than the Borders in Monroeville, hands down. It's probably one of the few stores in the Mills Mall that does very well.

They will be out of business soon. Someone will buy up the remaining assets, debt, and rights to use their name, similar to Sharper Image, Circuit City, etc. The restructuring isn't going to help them out with their suppliers when it comes to negotiating new rates.
