What time does rush hour traffic usually die down? Coming from Greentree area, have to drive to Swissvale tomorrow night to be somewhere at 7PM, and wondering if I'm still going to hit a huge traffic jam through the Squirrel Hill tunnels. If so, I have to plan my time accordingly. Thanks!

If we leave Downtown around 6:30, we usually don't hit much traffic going through the Squirrel Hill tunnel. So I think you should be OK with a 7:00 arrival in Swissvale, at least on that end.

There is a small chance you will hit some slow traffic between Downtown and Swissvale.

An alternate route would be to exit at Grant Street and turn right onto Blvd. of the Allies and continue east on Panther Hollow Road, continue on Hobart, right on Shady, continue on Tilbury, left on Forward, continue on Commercial. This will bring you to the Swissvale/ Swisshelm Park area.

You can also go up Second Avenue and then through Greenfield to get to Forward.

But personally, I wouldn't bother with any of that after 6:30. At most you might have to put 5-10 minutes cushion into your schedule just in case, and it would take at least that much extra time to use the backroads.
