Ok, I guess that IS the house on the corner of Bigelow and Bayard I was talking about that is made of granite block. Would be interesting to know the story behind it.

I think I saw the granite house when I was looking on the AC webside. The houses in that little area are very nice. There are some more affordable ones that the 400k and 500k (I think I saw a 700k one too). There are three homes for sale on or near Lytton, 2 for 800k and 1 for 500k. The 2 for 800k are assessed at 500k and 600k, and the one asking 500k is assessed for 300k. They'll probably get close to their asking prices too.

The people who live in those houses in Oakland send their children to private schools. They don't care about school districts. Since you're worried about over extending yourself, you'd do best to aim lower. Considering that you're moving in three years, I'd spend less money on a house in a desirable school district. Those are the areas you want to buy because people always want to live in the good school districts.

The estimated monthly payment is only $11,695!

Just imagine the taxes on top of that!

If it was a good story, I'm sure the realtor would be advertising it. It was probably just an origional house for someone at the university or hospital.

I'm wasn't thinking that I was aiming for that neighborhood at all. It is pretty well established that I'm looking in the $150k-$175k range. I was just curious about that neighborhood, which is completely separate from my realistic house search.

I live in Regent Square, I wanted to stay here, but we ended up buying in Point Breeze. I am going to miss walking down the street to have a beer, coffee or dinner. We were unable to find a house near the park that is not in Wilkinsburgh school district I love the The Sq Cafe and the new restaurant Legume is excellent. It is a very easy drive down to the Edgewood strip mall & to the Waterfront Mall.

I feel very safe here, friendly people, mix of blue collar, white collar, young & old. Not a ton of kids, but the park is very handy!
